The Mission

The Opportunity

If you are looking for an opportunity to be a #HIM, then look no further, (but please read on)…

Following the template laid out by our Northern brothers in F3 Metro & Raleigh, F3 Columbia will establish a downtown AO to support an organization that’s all about invigorating male leadership in our community: The Oliver Gospel Mission.

For over 125 years, the Oliver Gospel Mission has been transforming the lives of men in our community. From their website:

The mission of Oliver Gospel Mission is to see that the broken and homeless are sheltered, given the gospel of Jesus Christ, and equipped to live responsibly.

Our philosophy is drawn from the adage “Give a man a fish and you have fed him for today. Teach a man to fish and you have fed him for a lifetime.” Our goal is that the men arriving at our door will receive the tools they need to live fulfilled, functioning and fruitful lives, ready to contribute to and enhance the community.

While they have many programs and initiatives, the men that we will be working with are taking part of Oliver Gospel Mission’s Recovery Program, which helps take men struggling with addiction to drugs and alcohol, and puts them on the path to becoming contributing members of society:

The Recovery Program is a 4-phase program designed to help men addicted to drugs and/or alcohol escape those addictions though a relationship with Jesus Christ. It is our aim to assist these men in being transformed into successful, recovered, productive members of the community.

The Mission A.O.

F3 Columbia will host a 45 minute workout on Saturdays at 8:30 at Finlay Park for the men in their Recovery Program. Each Saturday, F3 Columbia will send guys to lead the workout, which will be designed around the capabilities of the men in the Recovery Program. We’ll wrap up with a BOM, and head back to the Mission for “coffeeteria”.

We’ll launch this AO on Saturday, March 28th, at 8:30 AM. Meet in the Finlay Park field.

That’s it. We’re not curing cancer here. The goal is to bring these guys a good workout, get to know them, share a cup of coffee, and give them an opportunity to just feel like one of the guys again. Who know where this will take us.

How You Can Help

If you are interested in being involved in this AO, please indicate in the comments below. From my discussions with other AOs, we’re looking for about 5-10 guys to head over there every Saturday to Q and participate in the workout. We went with a 8:30 launch so you can get your grove on at your regular gig and still make it over there for a double down if you like.

I’ve already  heard from Serena, Dodgeball, Mungo, McLovin, Boris, Crack, Breakfast Club and Cornstashe, but we’ll need more guys, so please, HC below and I’ll get you on the email list.

  1. Strong! Reach out for any ideas on workout format. We have a way that we do the prayer in COT that is very powerful..

  2. Looks like we have about 10 guys planning on being at the launch on Saturday, so I think we’re good to go.

    Thanks for supporting this guys.

  3. If you’d like to Q a Saturday Mission workout, I’ve posted a signup sheet here:

If you don’t have a google account, let me know your date and I’ll sign you up (but then you need to get a google account)…
