Great crowd this AM posted to get a little snotwoggled in this December heat. We totaled a little over 2 miles during bootcamp and did a few burpees and other fun exercises. YHC stole Squat Squat Jumps from Chedda. Those are fun. Hell, everything was fun today. It felt a little old school. The last round wasn’t planned but it was effective. Merlot splash was just a few moments away.

Thanks to all who posted. YHC shares some reflections of 8 years of F3  further down.

If you see Good Hands and StageCoach today, tell them Happy 8 Years.  #pledgebrothers

Devo/Reflection:

My #FirstBell was 8 years ago today. It’s been truly life altering. I’ve learned a lot during this 8 year journey. I called it a ‘journey’ because I’m a work in progress in every aspect of my life. While I fall short a lot, I do feel I am getting better.

Because of F3, I wanted to share a few things I have learned as absolute truths:

1) Men need each other. These relationships are vital. Even if it’s just 45 minutes each morning, we need this. The women in our lives have no clue the struggles we go through. We have our own individual struggles as men but we are all linked by the pressures of a being a Dad, a husband, a provider. Even being masculine in today’s world. Which brings me to #2:

2) It’s manly to share your struggles. Thank goodness DREDD and OBT had the wisdom to make ‘end with COT’ as one of the 5 core principles. I have shared more struggles, burdens, laughter, hugs, tears with this group than I would ever dreamed I’d be able to. It’s simply not healthy to struggle alone. I remember very early in my journey we had a pax talk about his addiction to pornography. I remember thinking how odd and awkward that was. “Is he really saying that out loud?” Almost 8 years later, I look back at that moment and feel so much appreciation that he felt comfortable enough to say it out loud among a group of men. In what other setting would that be not only acceptable but normal?

3) Discipline is long lasting, motivation is not. This applies to all areas of life, not just fitness. I have seen so many guys come and go. They were all motivated at one point, but lacked the discipline to post regularly. Because of this group, I’ve read the Bible several times. Many guys in our Bible plan groups are motivated in January to get deeper in the word but they fall off when Leviticus comes. Why? They lack discipline. So, as you’re thinking ahead to 2022 and your fitness, diet, and Bible reading goals, seek discipline, not motivation.

In closing, I want to share this verse from 2 Timothy 1:6-7. Paul writes to Timothy, “This is why I remind you to fan into flames the spiritual gift God gave you when I laid my hands on you. For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but power, love and self-discipline.”

Be powerful. Be loving. Be disciplined.
