12 Pax Take On The Maltz at Surge

Some time ago it was YHC’s VQ at Surge.  Nervous and unsure of what to bring to the table, a variation of a hero WOD entitled The Maltz was introduced to the men of Surge.  It was condensed, it was less challenging but it got the job done.  Fast forward several months later, 12 Pax gathered on a clear and pleasant morning to take on The Maltz Challenge and it couldn’t be more fitting to Honor the Fallen USAF Master Sgt. Michael Maltz on the anniversary of his death, killed defending our Freedom on March 23, 2003 in Afghanistan.

Air Force Master Sgt. Michael Maltz was a career military man who was of the nations top pararescue soldiers, assigned to the 38th Rescue Squadron at Moody AFB in Georgia.  On March 23, 2003 MSGT Maltz and his elite pararescue squad were responding to a distress call while deployed in Afghanistan when his helicopter crashed into the mountains, taking the life of the 42 year-old hero.

The Maltz Challenge was first organized by MSGT Maltz family in conjunction with a group of Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) Agents, in 2007.  In starting the Challenge the Maltz Family and DEA honor the memory and sacrifice of all who have made the Ultimate Sacrifice during the Global War on Terror.  The event takes place once a year in March and new Honorees are recognized each year.
