2022 NYD Convergence – New Nantan

62 pax, including 1 FNG, kicked off New Years Day 2022 at Graveyard with a 1.5 mile AMRAP loop and UF.

YHC also had the honor of Passing off the Region Shovel Flag to our Next Nantan – NoHelp

Here is what went down:

Conditions: Cloudy – 70°, Winds SW 8.5 mph, 89% Humidity, felt like 70°

Disclaimer / Prayer

Dismiss the UF players, and Give instructions for the AMRAP.

The intention of this workout was to be scalable for all fitness levels.  YHC asked the pax to take notice of opportunities for all 3 Fs:

  1. Fitness – This is obvious, everyone is here to break a sweat and get better. Push yourself, don’t hurt yourself
  2. Fellowship – Don’t isolate yourself today, Talk with the pax beside you.  Do you know his nickname, where he posts?
  3. Faith – This is the tough one, but encourage the pax beside you, ahead of you, or behind you, even if it costs you a little pace on Strava.

Here is the AMRAP:

  1. Gator commons- Burpees x10
  2. Wall at top reaper hill – Wall Dips x20
  3. Horseshoe loop – Lunges x 10 each leg
  4. Helipad – Merkins x 20
  5. Cromp – pull ups x10 and tire flips x5
  6. Bus loop wall – step ups x 10 each leg
  7. Bear crawl up hill
  8. Top of bridge – Flutters x20 IC (4 Count)
  9. Student parking lot – Jump squats x20
  10. Bottom of tennis court hill – backpedal up hill.
  11. Corner of tennis lot – American Hammers x 10

Devo: Pride

“Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves.” – Philippians 2:3

When YHC took on the role of Nantan in March of 2020, no one knew what the world would look like in the next 2 weeks.  There are many items on a to-do list that never got done now nearly 2 years later.

2020 and 2021 have presented a new set of situations and norms for everyone and we have all had to make changes and roll with the ups, downs and punches.

As a region, we had some inconvenient times of Zoom workouts and other “Off The Books” workouts, but we returned back to business as usual after a couple months.  The biggest impacts came in the form of virtual races, virtual CSAUPs, and no Christmas Parties.

Personally, 2020 was more an inconvenience than anything.  All in all, our family and careers only faced minor hiccups, so we have been blessed through it all.

2021, has been a total different story:

  1. June – 2.3 has Seizures, spends a night in the hospital
  2. September – 2.1 suffers back injury in football that leads to surgery in November
  3. November – Dad, 79, was on a vent for 5 days with COVID after the first several hours were serious and nearly fatal.

This brings me to Pride (the quality or state of being proud: such as – a: inordinate self-esteem : CONCEIT; b: a reasonable or justifiable self-respect.)  In our Sunday Morning F3-Forge Group, the word “pride” comes up quite a bit, and YHC realizes that pride is like Kudzu here in the south – it can grow anywhere and everywhere if we aren’t careful.

Pride can make us do certain things, react certain ways (Social Media?), and it also can keep us from doing certain things.

Has pride ever kept you from sharing a struggle, or posting to a workout because you aren’t as fit as you once were?  GUILTY!

The situations listed above were examples where YHC had to swallow pride and ask for help through prayer.  Thankfully, several pax in this COT stepped in and prayed and supported YHC and our family through all of this.  Without F3, not sure how YHC could have made it through.

Through the power of God (who YHC believes in the Great Physician) all 3 situations improved.  Still minor daily struggles, but getting better each day.

YHC closes with one last question – Are there ways that you are motivated by pride? Or are there ways you are held back by pride?  Take a minute and pray through those situations and talk fellow pax.

New Nantan:

YHC likes New Years, because it is an opportunity for a fresh start.  What better way to start off 2022 than with our next Nantan.  Years ago, as YHC served as AOQ of Crypt, the best decision that YHC made was the pax to take over as the next AOQ.  Under this Pax, the AO flourished! And now, YHC will pass off the Region Shovel Flag to that same pax:

Matt Netzel – 36 – NoHelp!

NoHelp pretended to be surprised, then proceeded to rattle off a well prepared charge to the pax, that can be summarized by approaching 2022 with “Fearless Action”.  Tclaps, NoHelp! We are excited to see what 2022 looks like under your leadership!

Prayers

  • NoShow
  • AirWolf – Neighbor struggling while deployed, away from family.
